The beginning of the road
Arrived in Adelaide and began a great childhood with loving parents. Followed Dad's footsteps into the Scouting movement & took up the sports of trampolining & gymnastics. Did pretty good at school. Had the odd fall off a motorbike.
1982
Life as a Junior Accountant
KPMG wasn't yet named that but their amazing client base opening Mark's eyes to the big end of the corporate, artistic and sporting world.
1984
Elite Sportsman
Off to Canberra and the Australian Institute of Sport on a Gymnastics Scholarship.
1989
KPMG & Apple
Continuing to work at KPMG Mark moved from business services into technology consulting building the largest
networks in Australia.
Jumping out of public practice Mark joined Apple Computer and worked as a member of a high performing team
that grew business in excess of 100% per annum.
1991
The beginning of MudMaps
It was now time for Mark to create his first startup.
An inbound tour company that went on to win 3 state Tourism Awards & open an office in Silicon Valley.
With repeat clients like Bill Gates it wasn't long before the MudMaps network touched virtually every
part of the globe.
1998
Microsoft
Leveraging his global entrepreneurial talents and tech skills Mark joined Microsoft to drive engagement at
the Federal Government. Again part of a high performing team he oversaw and facilitated in excess of
$1bn in products and hundreds of millions of dollars in solution and software sales.
2004
The Beginning of Mentoring
Retiring from a successful career at Microsoft it was time for Mark
to move back to his own endeavours. He started helping startups and began financial trading.
He was involved in the growth of the EpiCorp business accelerator and the creation of
the Capital Angels investment group.
His tourism expertise kicked in again as he commercialised and launched the global Decipher online
knowledge base for the Sustainable Tourism CRC.
2007
Kilimanjaro
After another knee reconstruction Mark tested himself by climbing to the summit of Africa's highest mountain,
Mt Kilimanjaro (5850m), and backpacking around the world for most of a year.
2009
Noosa
Moving from Canberra to the warmth of Queensland Mark found himself in the Noosa region
working with startups from SE Queensland and beyond.
Continuing to travel and work with global businesses he was a frequent visitor to USA, Canada,
New Zealand, Asia, Africa & Europe. His volunteering work increases with NGOs
in underdeveloped countries
Continuing his enjoyment of aviation Mark assisted several Australian teams at World Hot Air
Balloon Championships and learnt to fly light sport aircraft
2014
Silk Road Motorcycling
Turning 50 Mark celebrated by riding a motorcycle down the Silk Road from the
Chinese border to Barcelona.
As Queensland woke up to the opportunities of the startup industry his mentoring activities
increased with the Innovation Centre at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Sunshine Coast becomes the largest startup community in Queensland.
2015
Digital Nomad
Leaving Noosa Mark and his partner, Linda, started travelling full time. First call was
8 startup weekends and a lap of Australia.
Leveraging his global network and connections further Mark introduces a range of
services to assist raise capital and help investors find ideal investments.
